Our skin won’t look beautifully flawless and healthy unless it’s smooth and mois-turized. Exfoliation is key. Some of the best exfoliants on the market rely on the use of alpha hydroxy acids and proteases derived from milk or fruit which are capable of gently disrupting cellular adhe¬sion molecules to remove the outer most layer of dead cells along the skin’s surface.
The popularity of pomegranate products continues to grow as more and more consumers become aware of the benefits associated with the superfruit. Research has shown that this exotic fruit contains compounds capable of providing intense antioxidant benefits by optimizing Super Oxide Dismutase (SOD) activity. SOD is a powerful anti¬oxidant enzyme that is capable of neutralizing the super oxide anion. This anion is the most persistent type of Reac¬tive Oxygen Species (ROS). It contributes to cellular damage and accelerates the pace of aging. By neutralizing this destructive free radical, SOD provides intense protection which helps to prevent damage that contributes to aging. (Baumann, L., 2009 Antioxidants In Cosmetic Dermatology (Chapter 34)
Phytocompounds in pomegranates have also been shown to provide additional anti-aging benefits by boosting col¬lagen synthesis and stimulating aquaporin expression. Advantages to increasing collagen production are that it can help to minimize the appearance of wrinkles while simultaneously improving skin tone. Aquaporins, which are also referred to as "water channels”, are essential structural proteins present in our cell membranes. They act as pores that regulate the transport of water in and out of our cells against the concentration gradient. This will allow water to be transported to areas where it is needed most. Using ingredients that activate aquaporins can help optimize hydration levels in the skin. FSS Fruit Enzyme Complex PF was specifically designed to coincide with the superfruit trend. It is a unique blend of Pomegranate, Starfruit, Passionfruit, Kiwi, Mangosteen, Pineapple, Lychee, Indian Jujube and Guava ex¬tracts. During the manufacturing process, Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and proteases are naturally isolated from the fruits. These components are capable of gently, yet effectively exfoliating the skin to deliver instant softening properties. AHAs are understood to loosen corneocyte attachments and reduce cell cohesion at the lower level of the stratum corneum to promote cellular renewal. As new skin cells generate, older cells slough off to reveal a smoother looking aesthetic. Factors such as sun damage, age and environmental stress cause this process to slow which results in the accumulation of dead skin cells. The use of AHAs can combat this problem by breaking proteolytic bonds to increase cellular renewal (Chatelaine 1993 Sep; 66(9):22).
FSS Fruit Enzyme Complex PF is not only capable of exfoliating and rejuvenating the skin to leave it feeling soft and smooth but it will also provide the potent anti-aging benefits associated with pomegranates as well as the other fruits incorporated into the blend. Another advantage of using this exotic ingredient is that it coincides with the superfruit trend which now a days provides superb marketing appeal.
